October will be done before you know it and National Novel Writing Month will be here!
While there's no need to plan your novel beforehand -- I've written several of my NaNos beginning with the vaguest of ideas -- you are alllowed to plan if you want to. And if you've thoroughly explored flying by the seat of your pants and want to try plotting, Martha Alderson has a nice series of *short* videos on plotting, just enough to get through before November arrives :-)
The first series of videos, "Step -by-Step How-To Plan and Plot a Novel, Memoir, Screenplay", has 27, each about 5 minutes long. They're all available at the Martha Alderson channel on YouTube. (Scroll all the way to the bottom on the right.)
She just started a second series of videos, "Plot Series 2", (the ones you just scrolled past at the top of her channel), where she discusses plot while referring to examples in a different novel each month. (It doesn't seem necessary to read the book to get something out of what she's saying.) The videos come out each week so won't be done before November.
She has a website, Blockbuster Plots, The Plot Whisperer blog, and The Plot Whisperer: Secrets of Story Structure Any Writer Can Master book that just came out.
