Write a sentence. Any sentence.
Take the last word and use that as the first word of your next sentence.
Keep on going!
The sentences don't need to connect. Just random sentences to get creativity flowing.
If you want take one of the sentences and use it as a writing prompt.
Some decent sentences that came from it:
ReplyDelete- Hidden in the dark cave, Sandro crouched, holding the dripping wound that would surely lead them to him.
- Entirely exhausted, Gorona dragged herself into the tavern dripping dusty sweat, blood and monster gore.
- Stream turned to creek, creek to river as the adventurers approached civilization.
- Dwarf penguins invaded the garage, looking for tools to build a flying machine.
- Closed to all but the most wholesome of practitioners, the inner circle was the most coveted spot.
- Spot held his own against the other dragons, though they were bigger and stronger and frankly meaner than he was.
Of course those were mixed with the truly inspiring like: Soil is good for gardens, and The cat came to the door begging for food ;-) Part of the challenge is being forced to write sentences in forms that you don’t normally, like, for me “Stream turned to creek, creek to river as the adventurers approached civilization.”
Story:
Entirely exhausted, Gorona dragged herself into the tavern dripping dusty sweat, blood and monster gore.
She stood in the doorway, barely able to keep herself upright until all the eyes in the tavern turned to her.
“Ha!” she barked triumphantly, her black eyes glittering amidst the splatters and rivulets on her face. “You said I would never be able to stand up to it! It did and I defeated it.”
Silence hung in the air until Hangruf said, “How do we know you defeated it? Did you bring back some proof?”
Gorona’s face fell and her jaw dropped. “But I did it! I’ve just battled the most fearsome beast that ever lived. Look at me? How can you doubt it?”
“I don’t know. You could have been rolling around in the dirt,” Jorgeld said. “Yeah, I want some proof.”
Gorona dropped into an exhausted faint.
They left her there, customers stepping over and on her as the entered and exited the tavern until the tavern keeper decided she wasn’t doing custom much good laying there in the doorway and dragged her off to the side.
Fornfir poked Gorona with a spindly finger every few minutes. Eventually he got bored and acccidently spilled some of the tavern’s swill on her. Gorona sputtered and sat up and screamed. “No! Not the claws!”
“Gorona,” Formfir said. “Gorona, snap out of it.”
“Hunh?” Laughter surrounded her.
“I told you they wouldn’t believe you,” Formfir said.
“Bunch a jerks,” Gorona grumbled. “What do I care? I know I did it. And I got the thing they’ve all forgotten the beast was guarding.” Gorona’s large yellow teeth gleamed in the dim light. Formfir drew back, his eyes wide.

Jordine dragged her battered body into the tavern for a hot toddy.
ReplyDeleteToddy helped himself to a full slab of ribs.
Ribs are easily broken by maces.
Maces were invented by farmers battling against knights run amok.
Amok Time was a popular Star Trek episode.
Episode one, which was actually the pilot, was remade into the
Menagerie.
Menagerie is a hard word to start a sentence with.
With a ball and a couple of gloves, much time can be passed.
“Passed up again,” Bordrest grumbled when practice dummies were chosen.
“Chosen by whom?” the fairy asked.
“Asked after me, did she?” rasped the man with the clattering
dentures on his lap.
Lap, lap, lap, went the thirsty dog after run, run, running.
Running a race is exhausting if you aren’t in shape.
“Shape the dough into a unicorn for the queen’s birthday,” ordered
the pastry chef.
Chef Bamoff presented the dressed boar’s head to the festive diners
who roared with approval.
Approval brings out the need-to-please in many people.
People desire to bask in the approval of their superiors.
Superiors need to poked to deflate their egos.
Egos are easily stroked in those who lack confidence.
Confidence can make lies sound like the truth.
Truth is art and art is truth.
Truth be told I didn’t want to start another sentence with truth.
Truth is a rare commodity.
Commodities are something sold like stocks that I know nothing about.
About this time, the dragon awoke from her 1000 year nap and she was
very very hungry.
Hungry hungry hippos was a memorable name for a game.
Game to try something different? the dancing ninja asked.
Asked for mash potatoes and he gave them cheese.
